my honest reaction to The Batman (2022)

!SPOILERS AHEAD (obviously)!

Yesterday i stayed up until 3am watching The Batman (2022). So, it all started when i saw a riddler meme on pinterest, and i thought he looked cool, so i googled who he was. Then i watched the whole film for him (2hours and 56minutes.....). This was an amazing film. Even though i originally saw it only for one character, i ended up loving all the others, especially Bruce and Catlady. I had never watched a batman movie before (does the lego movie count?) So i was a bit lost at first, but everything is explained pretty clearly, although only at the right times, so it's never too much information. I have to say, the filming techniques were just impeccable. In the first scene, where the mayor is watching tv and the riddler is standing right behind him, i got scared just from the ambience. The aesthetic aspect of this movie is amazing, the busy city is an interesting landscape to the action, full of it's little secrets and mysteries. One scene that stood out for it's beautifulness is one towards the ending, when Batman is in the water guiding that crowd of people with only a torch in his hand. The contrast between the bright red fire and the entire darkness is not only pretty and impacting, i think it also has a bit of a hidden meaning, as in the batman is the outstanding hope that Gotham City needs.

I think it's a bit obvious already, but my favorite character was The Riddler. His games remind me of the Saw franchise, which I love, but a bit more toned down (which is great because i couldn't sleep well after watching Saw 2, lmao). I also liked how he went from being a rather comical villain dressed in neon suits to something more real, and therefore, more terrifying. I think he's a great opponent to Batman, and my gosh, that scene near the end where The Riddler and The Joker get along? It gave me creeps just thinking of what a destructive duo they'd be.

I'm seriously thinking about buying the spin off comic for this specific version of The Riddler. It's probably a bit expensive, but it seems very much worth it. The scene where Batman and The Riddler finally faced eachother face to face was one of my favorites too. The part where The Riddler starts singing "Ave Maria"? It's perfect, his voice is a bit scary, but at the same time sort of comforting, creating the same vibe that "liminal spaces" give me (i *love* liminal spaces).

Of course, i was also a big fan of the rest of the movie, and when "Something in the way" by nirvana started playing I got very excited. The whole plot was good too, and i liked how it wasn't too rushed. Some other scenes i liked were the car chase and the goodbye between Batman and Catlady, it was sad, but at the same time it looked hopeful. It's an inspirational movie, in my opinion. Especially with all the justice and vengeance talk, it left me thinking about my own behavior for some time.

To sum up, i freaking loved this movie, despite never being a big dc/marvel fan. I think it's great because it doesn't require you to watch 1304829384 other movies to understand what's happening, just the basic idea of who is who will help you understand.

Thank you for reading!
