ENTRY O1 - 26/12/2023
My honest reaction to No Country for Old Men (movie)
!SPOILERS AHEAD (obviously)!
So last week I watched No country for old men and I really liked it. I watched it without subtitles (my only option) and since english isn't my first language it was a bit hard to understand some dialogues, especially towards the end of the movie.
I really loved the beginning and middle parts. Using the oxygen tank was genius, and the scenes where Llewellyn is hunting and finding the gone badly deal were very aesthetically pleasing, it was as if I could feel the heat on the dessert even though I wasn't there. The middle was also great, even though I think we could have gotten a bit more character development on Llewellyn's wife. I loved the constant persecution between Anton and Llewellyn. Anton is my favorite (obviously) because he's smart, I really like his personality and his implacable way of murdering people. I also loved the coin toss scene. It just shows more of his amazing character.
However, I got really lost in the end. I didn't understand almost anything. Why were there random Mexicans following llewellyn's wife and her mom? What happened to them after? Why did Llewellyn die so suddenly, and considering he's the main character, why did we get no explanation on his death? I also didn't like that Anton got into a car accident and then we just never see him again. I was expecting from the film that Llewellyn and Anton would meet and have a big fight off, but that didn't happen, which disappointed me. And why did the movie end so suddenly, when the sheriff was talking about some random dream?
I understand that no subtitles made it difficult for me to understand most of it, but I still think there are some unanswered questions. Even so, I loved this movie, and if I get the chance to watch it with subtitles I definitely will.
Thank you for reading!
