My honest reaction to madoka magica (season one, not the movies)
!SPOILERS AHEAD (obviously)!
Two days ago i found out this anime named "puella magi madoka magica" and i decided to start watching it immediately withouth researching about it (something i usually do before getting into a new series).
To be honest, I'm very pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be just a cute slice of life about magical girls, and that it would be a nice break from the depression that school gave me (lol), but after the third episode i understood i was in for another anime that would make me question life. I already knew how mami-san would die (tiktok i hate you) but i really wasn't expecting that it would be so soon. She seemed to have such an important role (and she did) so I don't really understand why she was killed so soon. I guess I'll find out when I watch the movies?
I really loved the ambience and the designs. The music is awesome too, and my favorite is definitely the ending theme song, "magia". I also really liked the witch's designs, it reminds me of when I would cut out drawings from newspapers and glue them all together to combine patterns and different letter fonts during primary school. Besides all this, the digitally advanced world where this anime takes place is really cool. For example, when sayaka doesn't go to school and there's a digital sign on the floor indicating she's absent. The girl's school is amazing too, i love how it's made of glass, so lots of sunlight can come in and create beautiful effects. It reminds me of the school windows on the anime "toilet-bound hanako-kun", but in a more modern way. I adore the magical girls costumes they have, especially Madoka's. They're so classy, but also really cute, even Homura's.
However, the plot twists got me good. On the episode where sayaka and sakura die i legit cried, especially when the episode ended and instead of the usual ending it showed them both together. And it was infuriating to hear how kyubey's race is just using magical girls as a way of prolonging the universe's lifetime.
This anime is so good, I'm still in episode 10, but I can feel that there's something big coming soon. I really wanna finish it before school starts (on 3rd of january). I most likely will update this when I finish the first season, but I think I'll create a separate entry for the movies.
